Are You Ready to Hop on the Bromance Trend?
About a year ago, JAGT spotted a new trend among guys: the “bromance“. Also known as a guy crush, here’s our definition of a bromance from that original post:
A man crush isn’t technically a crush in the traditional sexual sense of the word. It’s more like looking to men with certain skills and talents as our leaders. To teach us their ways. Whether it’s the guy with the well paid job, the man who always gets the girls or even the guy with a cool sense of fashion and style.
Well, since we first spotted man crushes in the wild, having a “bromance” has definitely become very trendy this year. Brody Jenner had his own reality show, “Bromance” on MTV and the recent hit film, “I Love You, Man” is still in the top 5 at the box office, grossing almost $50 million since its debut.
But do men outside of Hollywood really have “bromances?” And do women actually want to date men that are in them? SpeedDate.com polled their members to see what they thought about this topic. It seems that not many men have had a “bromance,” but even if they did, most women wouldn’t mind.
Here are the complete results:
MEN: Have you ever had a “bromance” with one of your male friends?
- 14% - Yes! We have a bond that nobody can break
- 47% - I’m close with my friends, but wouldn’t consider it a “bromance”
- 37% - No way! I’m just a romance type of guy
WOMEN: Would you ever date a guy who was in a “bromance”?
- 45% - Sure, it’s great for guys be close to their friends
- 32% - Yes, but I would still think it was a little weird
- 23% - Absolutely not! I want his attention on me
So guys: if you’re ready to hop on that bromance bandwagon, go right ahead. The ladies won’t mind. And we won’t say anything either.
Have you noticed more guys jumping on the "bromance" bandwagon? Ladies, would you have a problem if you're man was in a bromance?

Wtf.
its a trend...i missed something
ok
bromances are way too amusing to not love them. =)
hahaha i always make fun of my boyfriend and his friend who basically have a bromance. they always hug each other and stuff. it's the funniest thing in the world cause they're just doing it jokingly, but it's seriously so cute :P
can be a little disturbing when they get too huggy...
vut.. D:
47% DON'T WANNA ADMIT IT'S A BROMANCE.
I always hug my guy friends as well as girl friends...didn't know it was considered bromance...
i didn't know it was wrong to hug a brother from another mother for extended periods of time! It's just what we do!
Bromances are just funny/ strange imo...
However thing is, Girls can be "Bros" also in accordance to the code, and so is it still a Bromance when its a girl who is the other bro?
yeppers..likes the feel of a good solid male buttock when i swat it hello...( goin over to corner now to be noisily sick)... lol nah ... go to Philippines and watch the men walk hand in hand down street or arms about each other shoulders...they are hetro and not gay, jus a differnt culture and how they view relationships.. still gave me the heebee's though... (slightly homophobic and ok wth it)
hahah i've seen this among my guy friends.. i don't think it's a recent trend, i think it just recently got a name =P
I have a couple bromances....complete with man-dates and general guy-love.
@black_lie@xanga - absolutely.
More importantly... is that guy wearing UGGs?!
This is really stupid to be honest. Throwing that 'bromance' word around is just a way to try and emasculate us. Why can't we have really close friends without having to try and make it seem ridiculous. But I have a few friends that I'm really close to, but one in particular that our parents have even thought we were going to run away together. I don't know how many times his mom has asked us if we were gay. Awkward. He is my brotha from anotha motha.
Nah, I wouldn't care.
Bromance? Yeah, right, and tyen you got the metrosexuals. Buncha wanna be fags.
My ex and his best friend had a bromance.
It was incredibly annoying.
...the definition of this word irks me something awful. It's called a "bromance" 'cos you look up to a guy that you think is fuckin' awesome? If that's the case, I think "mentor" would be a better term..
but even so, I think it's ridiculous to even mention this sort of thing at all. Sure, I've looked up to some of my friends before, and I've even asked them how they do what I thought was so awesome. But I wouldn't call it a "bromance", simply because that's an outlandishly overcomplicated statement of what's really going on.
I think it's a silly new term for genuine friendships. I don't think guys should be mocked for having close friendships; in fact, the world would be better if everyone had them. The term does amuse me, but I don't like it being used to ridicule.
And yeah, I would definitely date a guy who had a so-called bromance, as long as they prioritized things appropriately according to the situation.
I think its funny. I saw a few guy friends that were like that but never had a name for it til now.
My boyfriend on the other hand... I think he has one with his best friend's husband. they go off long boarding while me and my bf's best friend stay at her house and talk and laugh at their expense. its so funny. because she tells me things that i've noticed about my bf and it just makes us laugh cause she explains stories behind it.
I think its fine. If girls can have other girls that they confide in then why cant men? <3addy
