Hey guys, where'd you get your outfits, the hipstore?
If I came into the office a little more regularly, I would be
one of just two Mac users in the place. As Kash alluded to in his introductory/bio post he took a little heat at the beginning for being a Mac guy.
Now I've been a Mac guy my entire life. When I was aged five or so and a computer was a novelty, my dad used to bring home his work
SE, and things just progressed from there. "Hold on dude," you're thinking, this entry was supposed to be about
hipsters, well I'm on my way there. These days the Mac is one of many quintessential hipster accessories. Macs are
cool and Mac users think they are cool for using Macs. That's not the reality for all of us, but it's the stigma around it.
Well I'm just here to tell you what I just said, not all of us think we are cool because we use Macs. I use a Mac because I grew up on Mac. I can get by on a PC, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it right? The awful viruses and many other troubles my PC friends have had, I've largely avoided them in my Mac existence. Things still go wrong with Macs, no question, the frequency is just greatly reduced.
But uh oh, not only do I have a Mac (two actually), I wear fairly form fitting pants (nothing specifically labeled skinny), and tight t-shirts have been my
M.O. since maybe middle school or so.
I'm not saying you shouldn't hate me, there are plenty of reasons for that, but don't just hate me for superficial reasons. However, it's unavoidable to not place judgements from time-to-time based on appearance alone. I know because I do it too, and since I hang out in Williamsburg a decent amount, I'm confronted by the very hipster towards which great animosity is aimed. Hipsters are so reviled that there are many sites devoted to tales and photos of hipster hate. So if you are a passenger on the good ship hipsters suck, you will greatly enjoy the following sites:
Diehipster.com: A great compendium where people share links to hipster artists, tales of observing hipsters, and pretty much just channel the hatred you have and maybe make you think, "I've seen that guy/gal."
Lookatthisf#ckinghipster: This site is pretty much brand new and has taken off in a hurry. In the past two days I have received multiple email links to it and have noted references in gmail status messages. It's pictures of what mostly seem to be Williamsburg's finest but I'm sure they are from all over the nation's hipster pockets. The pictures are accompanied by some fairly on-point captioning.
Hipsterhandbook.com: What better place to go than the source. Sure those other two sites poke fun at hipsters but if you're really looking to focus your dislike then you must understand the core values of the hipster themself. Hipsters hate to admit it as they are always looking to be increasingly underground and lay claim to, for instance, the most obscure of bands and art, but ultimately their information has to come from somewhere. The hipsterhandbook is a decent aggregrator and it'll tell you not only the likes of hipsters that you need to dislike, but also how to watch for the warning signs in yourself.
Believe it or not, I don't really have that big of a problem with hipsters. I think they should get over themselves, but that's a lot of the world. I can also see them look angrily at me when I do things like run in my short shorts and no shirt (I am an actual runner after all) and when I do things like wear two different-colored shoes (while running and not). I don't think I'm special for doing either, I just do it because it pops into my head and for something like no shirt, I just hate being sweaty and doing laundry. I also have a beard to balance my giant eyebrows and so I don't appear sixteen years-old, and I do listen to a lot of Indie music. And I'm sort of skinny since I run a lot...Uh oh, am I a hipster?
What about you? Do you hate hipsters? What's your biggest gripe? Maybe you have a story to share? Is there another group that annoys you more than hipsters?

oh hipsters are too cool for me. thats the problem - they are just so fucking awesome because they have older siblings that can buy them cigarettes and have enough money from their parents to buy all their clothes from american apparel, urban outfitters, and metropark.
ugh!however, i hate egotistical athletic people more. not jocks, necissarily. its healthy to be competative and enjoy sports - but once you've convinced yourself of how much better you are than me because your mile time is 4 minutes and mine is 8, i start to get pissed. especially when you talk about it.
i didn't really read. but i just wanna tell you that i really like your peach fuzz :]
It's the next best thing to hate hipsters, like it was the big thing to hate Coldplay, right?
If hipsters generally like good music and movies NOT for the trends but for something deeper, then yes, you can call me a hipster. Otherwise, a hipster is no different from the person who claims to like The Roots, when the truth is he just hates hip-hop.
anyone who follows a fashion trend is lame.
I don't hate hipsters. Hate is a awfully strong word for what seems to me to be following the lead of a few offbeat individuals and calling it hip. They don't want to admit it but many of them are just blindly following a trend not being themselves.
In any case, if big glasses and 80's clothes makes them happy more power to them...they give me something amusing to look at.
The hippie scene is bigger than the hipster scene where I live. Which doesn't make sense because all these hippies were born in the '80s-90s.
don't want to sound dumb but what the hell is a hipster? is it the evolution of the hippie or is it some new fad... from the name and description i can only assume indie underground type people
check out HIPSTERRUNOFF.COM
I think the people hating others based on the way they look are the only people I really can't stand.
You can find assholes in every scene and crevice if you look.
I hate everyone
but especially hipsters
but ESPECIALLY EMO KIDS
heh, i can't be bothered to hate someone for wanting to be cool. i'll make fun of anyone for being ridiculous [shrug]
umm ..lost me at short shorts?....
@BranmacFeabhail@xanga -
Hipsters are hilarious.
@mynameisblueskye@xanga - i don't hate hipsters either; the point here is to note how much hipster hate has progressed not only in the past few years but, apparently months. anything to take focus off the economy, etc...
@asdfghjkieu@xanga.com - it took me forever to type your username because i was foolish not to cut and paste. i'll forgive you for not reading, that turned out a lot longer than i intended!
Yea dude, you're a hipster. Get over yourself!
@Linteria@xanga - duly noted.
