Do Guys Need Some Manly Rituals?

I'm a cross country and track runner. Both sports are co-ed, and predominantly male. So, naturally, the girls get exposed to activities that the guys do that other girls might not see.
For example, pre-game (well, pre-meet actually, but pre-game sounds cooler) rituals. The things that we all do the night before--for us girls it's shave our legs or something equally vain like that, but for guys? They take it to a whole new level. It's like a religion to them.
We actually had an indepth discussion about this. One of the guys said the night before a race, he sets aside several activities, including...
- WATCHING 300: He says it makes him feel more manly.
- EATING CARBS AND MEAT: Energy and protein. All the sustenance a man needs.
- SHAVING...DOWN THERE: I really have no way of explaining this one. He said it feels nice and smooth. I didn't question further.
- WATCHING PR0N: I didn't quite understand this one, either. It might have just been part of the normal schedule.
I'm sure there were others.
Do guys have rituals they like to perform to feel manly before a big event? What do you do to prepare for something big?

I destroy things. It gets me in the right mood.
before a meet, we listened to pumping music such as Final countdown (lol so cliché), made sex jokes, and of course, some took the pre-race dump.
wow... horrible article.
all athletes(and everyone else for that matter) male or female has little rituals to ready themselves for whatever. Weather it be below the threshold of conscious perception or blatant.
stop being sheep, people. suckling at the teet of our own ridiculous gender defining stereotypes.
@erahslover@xanga - I disagree. Not to say some girls don't have things they do, but I'm willing to bet if you took a survey, you'd find more males with these rituals then girls.
It stems from the psyche. Males enjoy a pretty rigid hierarchy. Check any organization designed for men, by men. Boy Scouts. Lodges. Even the Military (the structure hasn't changed drastically since long before women were allowed in. Yeah, it's designed for men, by men.). All these things have a very set code of conduct. It takes a lot of guess work and gray area out of day to day living. It's just something guys do, and certainly shouldn't be looked down on.
SHAVING...DOWN THERE: I really have no way of explaining this one. He said it feels nice and smooth. I didn't question further.
to the author: if you spend much time dealing with that area you will understand why it is convenient. basically the same reason why girls shave themselves. or maybe do you not shave yourself? (which is sort of gross and messy..but..?)
Any poll you could do would be inconclusive. ALL ATHLETES DO THIS. ALL HUMANS DO THIS. You're not getting what im saying.
