Have you heard of the Pirates in Somalia that are
taking over boats and stealing goods from ships? Well, they've hit a number of U.S. ships and have made millions off of oil and other goods.
Many of them are heroes in their homeland and are praised for what they're doing.
When I heard the story on the news, it piqued my interest. During the entire newscast, I couldn't help but picture how these pirates would look like. This is what I imagined:

Imagine my disappointment when I saw these guys:
Don't get me wrong, these guys do look scary with those guns but they don't strike fear in me like a ship with that sword and skull flag. Now, whenever I picture a pirate, I'll see these guys. Instead of a battle between two ships, I'll picture these guys on a little boat, like the ones many Cubans use to escape to the U.S., taking over an entire ship.
Plus these guys use GPS systems to track the ships. That's lame, anyone can use a GPS device. Real pirates use compasses.
Johnny Depp shouldn't even bother making another
Pirates of Caribbean movie. I'll be picturing that man in the above picture holding a gun and
Tom Tom, instead of Jack Sparrow with his messed up compass and sword. How sad.

I heard of it. When I turned on the news I saw "Breaking news. Pirates raiding ships" and I lol'd XD
come on, potc type pirates are from the 19th century. even pirates have to upgrade to keep with the times
I never pictured pirates as they are presented in movies, or at least I haven't for a long time unless I was specifically thinking about pirates from the early days of Europe colonizing the Americas. Most of what pirates used back then was used because it was the peak of technology for that time.

And the second type of pirates (as portrayed in the post) may not be "scary", but if you're right there with them, trust me - you'd be peeing in your pants. Don't lie.
Pirates aren't cool or funny. They steal, rape and murder. Recently they kidnapped a family of 4 and killed one of them (I'm not sure which one, though). I've always thought this trend of pirates is just dumb. It's like saying "Oh! You like child rapistist? So do I!"

This has been going on for years every since the U.S. went over an toppled their government and left the country in ruins. This is the 20th century and that is what Pirates look like, they never looked like Johnny Depp in the First Place. Pirates of the Caribbean is a crappy movie made from a crappy ride ad a crappy theme park. Real pirates use any means necessary to get paid.
I think Jerry Seinfeld said it best, "But I don't wanna be a pirate!"

@Kazydai - I see my soul. Then again, you can't see a ninja's soul. We are staring into darkness. Because in darkness, ninjas are everywhere . . . . or are they?
yeah, i wrote a paper on them last semester. They toned down around xmas and new years,they had other things to do. but recently its spiked. and now they have targeted the almight U.S. wrong move somalis. looks like things will end sometime soon in the near future. but we dont want to start another war. and these somalis are linked with al qaeda and other terrorist groups. we have to be careful. The best option if your flagship allows it, is to hire security guards armed with a high frequency directional sound, LRAD, its scary intimidating. Let's see what you got Obama...

You hate them now... but just wait till you see a pirate running around with an RPG, and slowly point it at you at point blank range.. Then you'll hate them even more.
@abh816@xanga - agreed. these particular pirates have actually held a man hostage from my hometown and is my friend's uncle. so let's hope he comes home.
@Kazydai - Excuse me??!! We toppled their government??!! Somalia had no government at the time!! The country was being ruled and brutalized by WARLORDS!! That's not a government!! Somalia was and STILL IS a menace to the rest of Africa!! Get your facts straight MORON!!
