  • Do Mancouch Images Suggest Pr0n?

We received a complaint today from a Xanga user about the pictures and content on Mancouch.

The user claims Mancouch has been pairing "sexualized images of women with pretentious posts about women.”

The rest of the message went like this:

The current image up on "Why Women are on Mancouch" is not one that I think is respectful to the female users who see it. It doesn't add anything to the post (except to get people's attention, I guess) and the post can function just as well without it.

The website spends almost half of its time talking about women in a stereotypical manner, and although there aren't any death/r*pe/physical abuse threats going on, I am disappointed to see [such posts published]. I understand we have a right to free speech, but the women who use your site also have a right to not be placed into a stereotypical box while simultaneously looking at images that suggest pr0n.

Here are the titles of the last 10 posts along with the pictures for each one:

Do you think the images Mancouch puts up suggest Pr0n? What about the user's complaint that we spend half the time stereotyping women?

one...the writer is probably an ugly girl or some weak dude with a born again ethos..
two... blatantly or subtly for the depiction of women??
lol and three ..who gives a rats ass?
more than half of the readers and responders are women so...

  • mustardcat@xanga

Yes. Whatsa matter with that. Pr0n is good for your cholesterol.

Some women are tight-asses. Mancouch is my fav. xanga sister(brother?) site. I have never taken offense to anything that writen, in fact, I think you guys have a tasteful knack for addressing issues, and humour.

Some people don't have a sense of humor. Thats unfortunate for them.

  • MangoWOW@xanga

haha. Some people really have no life.
They have to complain about something so stupid? The only picture I thought was suggestive was the sleepover looking one. Even then, who the fuck cares?

  • beforedawn@xanga

P.S. did ya see the gun on dat guy?

  • madalynk@xanga

Dude. Whomever wrote that needs to get a straw and suck it up.

It's obviously not bothering a significant amount of people.

  • Never_go_quietly@xanga

Oh, come on! If the images bothered women, we wouldn't come here anymore. That reader needs to speak for themselves! (read: a daily dose of porn/sex is good for your health)

  • goldenj2384

after reading that girls message, i am going to write The Top 5 Reasons Why I Love Boobs.

  • methodElevated@xanga

Wait...  are you suggesting some people think there's something wrong with pr0n?    Say it isn't so!

  • ForeverLove_xx@xanga

Lol really? I think he/she/it is just looking for something to complain about.

  • irishgrrl690@xanga

Nah. If you ask me there's not ENOUGH bewbs.

If this person doesn't like the site then they can go away. Mancouch is about manly humor and general nasty stereotyping that people who aren't total cement blocks can appreciate. This writer may not fall under this category. Just saying.

    @goldenj2384 - I promise to recc. PROMISE.

  • H0Eass@xanga

hah, yeah mancouch suggest alot of pr0n. ;)

  • wherethefishlives@xanga

For God's sake, grow up and stop referring to it as pr0n! And why the fuck was the word "rape" censored???

  • yourkbear@xanga

God, you guys are rude.  So, someone was offended.  That doesn't mean you have to be even bigger dicks!

  • jolee121910@xanga

o yes, mancouch is, without a doubt, a porn site. nothing more, nothing less. *sarcasm* what. the. **** is going on through her mind? i think she needs to get her mind out of the feminist gutter, and realize men utilize stereotypes for humor. dear god, i hope she knows the the meaning of humor.

  • grr_tha_rebel@xanga

just another dumba$$ who obviously doesnt understand that if she/he doesnt like what they see on MANcouch then well THEY DONT HAVE TO VISIT THE SITE. STOP BEING STUPID AND JUST STOP COMING TO THIS SITE IF IT PISSES YOU OFF!!!!! YOUR AN IDIOT!

  • kieri126@xanga

@goldenj2384 - haha niice. do it.

anddd no, I dont think you have anything to worry about with your female readers. I was never offended when looking at any of those pics and I think if she doesnt like it then she should stop coming here and reading mancouch stuff...I find it very interesting and entertaining to read...

Yeah it stereotypes women but it also stereotypes men. Its equal and just funny :)

  • yourkbear@xanga

No wonder it's called Mancouch--not because it's written by/for men, but because men are the only ones' whose opinions matter.  I bet there are men who would have been offended by it too, so maybe all of you should grow up.  If someone's offended by something posted on here, that should be taken into consideration.  You should NOT mock him/her and make him/her feel bad.  I hope he/she makes a big deal about it.  I'm pretty sure Xanga has a "no offensive pics" rule.  I hope he/she reports it.  Yes, that's what he/she should do.  He/She tried to be nice about it, but you guys are being assholes.  His/Her next move should be to be a bitch/asshole right back.

  • mustardcat@xanga

@yourkbear@xanga - haha wtf.. is she is so offended by this site, why would she keep reading it? she's obviously read it more than once to make the statement "The website spends almost half of its time talking about women in a stereotypical manner"

It's not hard to close a window and not return. She's taking the more hysterical, attention-seeking, hilarious way.
In which case, i think that gives us all a good reason to poke fun. Dontcha think?

  • yourkbear@xanga

    @brittbritt__x@xanga - No, I don't.  I think you guys are being jerks.

  • YouTOme@xanga

i'm not sure i understand what is meant by posts being pretentious, and i'm not sure that most of the images suggest porn, but i will agree that i think some of the pictures are a bit much on occasion.

it's kind of sad how desensitized i've become to how sexy-ness sells in advertising. i guess i'm not surprised anymore when i see it in journalism and even in the public schools.

but that doesn't mean i have to always like it. i applaud this guy or gal. he/she probably knows things will continue as is, but at least he/she voiced his/her opinion.

the picture that stands out for me lately that i didn't really care for so much was the one where it looks like teen girls are having a slumber party.  it's not so horrible - i've seen worse on t.v. or in the stores, but clearly a lot of guys got a rise out of that, and so being a mentor to a lot of teen girls, i'm a little protective.

well, to be fair, this is a man's site supposedly (at least stereotypically), and so some of is almost expected.

  • mustardcat@xanga

@yourkbear@xanga - Thats unfortunate, i guess not all of us have a sense of humor.
I have a very strong feeling your the one who wrote the complaint.

"not because it's written by/for men, but because men are the only ones' whose opinions matter."
Why are you giving your opinion then? Silly.

  • yourkbear@xanga

@brittbritt__x@xanga - Ha.  No.  I wish.  Because if it was me, I'd have already reported it as offensive.  I'm smart like that.  And bitchy.  I do have a sense of humor.  Otherwise, I would have been offended.  But I'm not.  But I don't think it's ok to be asses to someone because they were offended.

  • beforedawn@xanga

@yourkbear@xanga - bitch... but that was jus my opinion...

  • Manstration@xanga
  • YouTOme@xanga

this is probably not going to mean a lot to many people, but what we read and what we view does impact how we think and our attitudes. the more you fill your mind up with garbage, the more it will invade your spiritual life negatively.  likewise, the more you surround yourself and fill yourself up with good things, the more you are blessed by it.

there have been plenty of studies conducted on the positive impact of certain types of music, images, prayer, etc.  it's a no-brainer really.

bad habits start off small. nobody wakes up one day and decides "i want to be addicted to porn!. i want to be an alcoholic! i want to be pregnant at 19!" no, it's a gradual fade; a gradual decline based on little choices we make every day.

most guys who have recovered from porn addiction will tell you how it destroyed their lives, their marriages, etc. it's like any other addiction, once you are sucked in, the more intensity/variety you will crave. it never satisfies, it just leaves people feeling empty in the end.
