Things It Takes a Real Man to Do
There has been a lot of discussion on this site about what it means to be a man and/or what actions are manly or un-manly.
So, I've been thinking about that myself. Because, in my opinion, manliness isn't just drinking beer and watching football. Here's a list of things only real men can do.
1. Wear pink. I often wear pink (as well as purple) just because I think I look good in it.
My dad used to tell me that pink is a girls' color, but since then I told him that with our skin tone (we're Indian, as in from South Asia) pink looks really good.
So now he wears pink ties with his suit and he never looked better.
2. Cry in front of their wife/girlfriend. Men often see crying as a form of weakness and won't do it in front of women they feel they have to impress daily.
While I don't see crying as a sign of weakness, I think that if you do belong to that ideology, your wife/girlfriend is the one person who can see that side of you.
She'll appreciate that you showed her your vulnerable side and you'll be able to trust her more.

3. Watch a chick-flick without complaining. Back when my cousin was dating his girlfriend, she always had to force him to go see chick-flicks with her.
And he'd complain all the way through, thus ruining her enjoyment of the film.
While they didn't break up for that reason, I still think it was a dumb move to not let his gf enjoy the movie, even if he didn't himself. Not only did he lose points with the SO, but he also showed a tightly closed mind, which is never good.
4. Laugh at themselves. Too many men are concerned with keeping up an image that they get too embarrassed when they make a mistake or trip.
But no one wants to spend time with a pretentious douche. Laughing at yourself shows a laid back guy who doesn't have any self-importance.

5. Stay faithful to his wife and family. It's easy for men to be tempted into betraying his loved ones, but it takes a real man to ignore the temptation and remain true to his family.
In my honest opinion, nothing is more manly than being a family man. You know, taking the kids to the park, driving them to soccer/ballet/drama practice, being home for dinner, etc.
What are some other things only real men do?
This is a submitted guest blog.

I love your list!
i thought it was pretty lame...what does any of this have to do with being a man?
This is not Mancouch worthy...Take this crap to Datingish.
Great list =]
@jfmichael@xanga - This is why you fail as a man and you will be bound to the wonders of your hand forever. =]
@jfmichael@xanga - you're an idiot. you don't think it takes a real man to be faithful to his wife and family? you think those males out there who abandon their children are MEN?! grow up.
Gay men also wear pink. Women wear pink.
I agree about crying infront of your wife or girlfriend, but I think real men don't cry without a good reason either.
Watch a chick flick without complaining? Hell no. Do real women watch Rambo without complaining? Would you call a girl "unwomanly" for not watching guy stuff? Chick flicks suck.
#4, yeah. I think real men should be able to laugh at anyone.
#5, I def agree.
You should have thrown in #6, be able to stand up for himself, his family,(or girlfriend) his friends and his beliefs, and and his country. And be able and willing to fight for them where necessary.
@Stupendulous@xanga - I agree with you. No real man ever leaves his family.
Although 1 and 3 were lame... 5 was definetely right.
Real list. :) Love it!
This is a really good list.
You know I thought this was kind of lame too. Some of the points are nice, but I don't get how this is what "real" men do. All men are real men and if they complain while watching chick flicks and don't want to cry or wear pink how does that make them less of a man? For the last point, ANY man should be able to do that or they are just not adults, not "men." They are children if they cheat and are deceitful. We need to abolish these "real" men and women stereotypes.
Women who support this should think twice - you expect men to not complain while watching chick flicks? Well then don't complain when he decides to do something for HIMSELF and not YOU all the time. Like seriously sometimes society puts so much expectation on a man that I wonder how hard it would be to be a dude sometimes.
"Real" men are nothing more than mature adults as they should be. Same with "real" women (although no one talks about that). I don't see why any of that has to do with watching chick flicks without complaining, wearing pink, or crying.
hahahahhaha..
talk about
I'ma bring all the chicks to my yard..
@Stupendulous@xanga - what are you rambling about? Dont be a cunt and put words into my mouth...
Real men dont need to sit down and discuss what it takes to be a real man.
Everything listed above is not man specific. It is specific to morals all humans should follow... Not just men.
What the hell is a "real man" anyhow.... You are all talking about what "real men" do.. But you are not stating what a real man is...
Just another ignorant blog... And I get the heat from the bitch who was obviously abandoned..so she lashes out irrationally twisting my words and trying to put meaning behind them there wasnt.
See a therapist..It is time to get over your past. Dont take it out on random Xangans.
absolutely correct!
@misswonderj@xanga - Oh god..not this sand coon again
@greatsneha@xanga - yeah...what this person said!
@jfmichael@xanga - Oh I forgot its the racist troll. Still jerkin and trolling. Pathetic. =]
Classic example of a boy here. =]
Sorry little boy, were discussing men.
@misswonderj@xanga - i can never get enough jerkin (is that anything like the chicken dance?) or enough trolling (Isnt that where you drag fishing bait through water like a lure?) My two favorite past times!
@John_of_the_bloomdocks@xanga - I think a real woman can find something to appreciate in an action film...this is probably because "guy" movies are some of my favorites and I consider myself "womanly." :-p
eat pussy!
Just sayin'.
I'm in love with this list, and I agree with pretty much, well everything. And that's a rare occasion with me, hah.
@Myteggya@xanga - I didn't mean you *have* to avoid action movies to be a real woman. My point was, it doesn't make you a real man because you watch chick flicks, just like it doesn't prove you to be a real woman to watch guy movies. Sure as hell doesn't make you less of a man or woman if you do though. I just don't think it proves anything.
Most of these thing, I could go either way about, but I agree with 5 wholeheartedly.
@jfmichael@xanga - No, trolling is where you drag a lure, or bait, anything with a hook, from a moving boat. I really prefer to cast a lure from a standing point, but I don't drink beer while I fish, that makes all the difference.
Damn perfect list. I agree with everything except the pink. Sure, you can rock pink once in a while, but I dislike those that go out of their way to show how much pink they can wear because they are "real men".
pink is not a manly color.
pink says he tries too hard to impress the world and he is a metrosexual diva.
