  • Things It Takes a Real Man to Do

There has been a lot of discussion on this site about what it means to be a man and/or what actions are manly or un-manly.

So, I've been thinking about that myself. Because, in my opinion, manliness isn't just drinking beer and watching football. Here's a list of things only real men can do.

Things It Takes a Real Man to Do

    1. Wear pink. I often wear pink (as well as purple) just because I think I look good in it.

My dad used to tell me that pink is a girls' color, but since then I told him that with our skin tone (we're Indian, as in from South Asia) pink looks really good.

So now he wears pink ties with his suit and he never looked better.

    2. Cry in front of their wife/girlfriend. Men often see crying as a form of weakness and won't do it in front of women they feel they have to impress daily.

While I don't see crying as a sign of weakness, I think that if you do belong to that ideology, your wife/girlfriend is the one person who can see that side of you.

She'll appreciate that you showed her your vulnerable side and you'll be able to trust her more.

    3. Watch a chick-flick without complaining. Back when my cousin was dating his girlfriend, she always had to force him to go see chick-flicks with her.

And he'd complain all the way through, thus ruining her enjoyment of the film.

While they didn't break up for that reason, I still think it was a dumb move to not let his gf enjoy the movie, even if he didn't himself. Not only did he lose points with the SO, but he also showed a tightly closed mind, which is never good.

    4. Laugh at themselves. Too many men are concerned with keeping up an image that they get too embarrassed when they make a mistake or trip.

But no one wants to spend time with a pretentious douche. Laughing at yourself shows a laid back guy who doesn't have any self-importance.

    5. Stay faithful to his wife and family. It's easy for men to be tempted into betraying his loved ones, but it takes a real man to ignore the temptation and remain true to his family.

In my honest opinion, nothing is more manly than being a family man. You know, taking the kids to the park, driving them to soccer/ballet/drama practice, being home for dinner, etc.
