So, as most of you probably know by now...
Madonna recently split from badass director
Guy Ritchie (who was 10 years younger than her).
She's now dating a model named Jesus Luz, who is 22 years old (and 28 years younger than her).
The media coverage has been pretty much universally harsh (as is usually case when Madonna is involved). But something about it is rubbing me the wrong way.
Just last week, reports surfaced that Summer Redstone (chairman of
Viacom), who is 85 and going through a divorce, is now dating a flight attendant in her 20's.
This caused a few raised eyebrows, but none of the vitriol that's been put out there about Madonna "cradle robbing" and dating a "baby".
Nobody accuses someone like Summer Redstone of "brainwashing" his 20-something girlfriend. So why do people assume Madonna is exorcizing some kind of weird religious voodoo to get a guy that young?
What kind of age difference is acceptable in a relationship? Would you ever date an older woman? What about an older woman who WASN'T worth almost half a billion dollars?

Its more acceptable in this society if a man dates younger, as it is in most societies because of the biological differences.
However the stigma, while acceptable, doesn't give it intelligent basis.
I guess "traditionally" the guy is "suppose" to be older than the girl.
But for me, I cannot date a guy who's younger than me, not even just couple months, tried it once, didn't go so well. I like a guy who is older than me(at least half a year older), more mature and responsible. At least in my experiences.
jesus.
That's like when Ashton and Demi got together... Oh, the drama!
And it was definitely awkward for Demi's daughter, who had magazine clippings of Ashton hanging in her room and he was one of her "celeb crushes"... How weird would that be!
But people are over it now, for the most part, so why not leave Madonna alone.
I mean, she's supposed to be "shocking" and "edgy", right? Why is that a big surprise then.
Another double standard. Nothing new.
However, I wouldn't date Madonna though. Have you seen the naked pictures of her and her very poorly-groomed bush? All natural? No thanks.
:) La di da. :)
im dating a younger guy, and it's tough, even though it's not a 28 year difference o_O
but hey, she's madonna. shes like immortal in hollywood years, what do you expect
haha... total bullshit and age-old social misconceptions. it has been acceptable for older men to marry younger women for centuries, prosecuting and slandering women for the very same thing. highly hypocritical.
and seriously, why not?
I wouldn't mind dating an older girl. I generally have a range of about plus or minus 4 years for my ideal dating age limit. I can possibly see myself dating someone outside that range, but it would be a bit more difficult seeing as we would most likely be dealing with totally different things in our lives.
age doesnt matter in love
If a man can do it why not a woman? Bring on the boy toys!
There's not really a difference. Culturally it's what I call learned-stupidity...and the rest is people LOVING drama, finding this as their excuse to make alot out of nothing.
if she wasn't worth half a billion dollars, i would never date an older woman ever. its been proven that women mature faster than men, so only men can date the young. not vice versa.
Yeah, I'd date an older woman.....
I think my friend needs to date an older woman. He's 23 and 30 something women oogle over him like nobody's business. I hope this becomes acceptable!
Personally, an excessive amount of years between someone is always difficult. too much of a difference in where the lifestyle's are.
I don't see anything wrong with Madonna dating a younger man. It proves she's still got "it," I guess.
I'm not sure if I could date a younger guy, unless he's significantly mature for his age, i.e. his personality and the way he carries himself makes me forget that he's younger. My limit is probably 1-2 years. But hey, I applaud a woman who can go below that, provided the guy isn't a minor...
just depends on the situation i guess. personally i was with a guy that was literally three times older than me and it was really really an unfair advantage. it only lasted a little while and we weren't planning on staying together. now that i think about it, it was pretty repulsive. i can't speak for everyone, though.
I'm two years older than my boyfriend and both my sisters-in-law are older than my brothers.
I find it more acceptable for a woman to have a toyboy than a man to have a much younger model. It seems far less predatory if it's an older woman. And I'm less inclined to think "dirty old perv!" lol oxo.
Off topic, but given that the average life span of men is approximately 10 years less than that of women, it makes most sense for a woman to marry a younger man. A lot of old women are widowed for more than 10 years. That's just sad.
What kind of age difference is acceptable in a relationship?
If both are consenting adults, than any. I think it's a little gross to see someone 30+ years different, but hey, their choice.
Would you
ever date an older woman?
I'm married to one, we have a 10 year age difference.
What about an older woman who WASN'T worth
almost half a billion dollars?
Worth? I can't place a monetary amount on her worth, but I'd certainly feel empty without her.
Personally, I've never liked younger women. I've dated some before, as I don't care about age all that much, but I've always desired reasonably older women ((not grandma's)). Especially women in their 30's, mmmm. They've experienced their dating phase already and know what/who they want in a relationship. They're ready to settle down for something real ((maybe not marriage, but not games either)). For a guy like me, I'm attracted to this, because all too often I find women, especially in their 20's, to still be wanting a guy as an accessory rather than share a serious relationship with. But that's just me...not all guys are looking for a serious relationship, and ofcourse, just like some women, there's plenty of guys looking to play games too.
I'd date an older girl who wasn't more than 5 years older than me-after that a generational gap starts to happen and you end up having different views on things.
as long as the couple communicate well and they accept eachother's lifestyle...what's the big deal about age? there are lots of other issues far more important than 'age differences' to be deal with in a relationship.
Madonna can date whoever the fuck she wants provided they're over 18. I don't know if it's wise but it's her choice. She isn't breaking any laws.
I like older women. would be fun to date one again.
