Video Games, Are They A Waste Of Time?
Video games.Play these things too much and you are taking away precious moments of your life that could have been with ones you love. Or perhaps you could be playing the most intense game and winning but there goes your life miserably down the drain.
I love video games but I don’t completely waste my time on them. Some of my favorites are Left4Dead, The Ship, and Dance Dance Revolution (I cant dance without the arrows).
Sometimes I go through phases where I can't stop playing a game, (hence the blisters on my feet from playing Dance Dance Revolution.) However, then I go through another phase where I won't play games for an extended period of time.
An advantage of my online games (Left4Dead and The Ship) is that in a way you are actually interacting with other people. The program involved with these online games is called Steam.
It comes with many online games so you can play well, online. You can also add new friends and make your own profile page. The people could be your best friend that live right down the street or someone you have never met that is on the other side of the world.
You can have very, very interesting conversations with the new people you meet, trust me on that one.
Video games also can help build fantastic eye and hand coordination which helps in everyday tasks such as playing a sport, or ducking before someone punches you straight in the face.
They are also a great way to take out your anger. For example, just sign on to the game Left4Dead and ferociously shoot every zombie in sight and voila! Angry no more grumpy pants.
Are video games a waste of time? Do you play the games online or on a gaming console?

i still play nintendo.
video games are a waste of time to some people but to others they could be the only thing they spend their time on
I love my wii :]I play Fifa 09 which is a soccer game but I only play it on rainy days when there's nothing else to do because to me it is a huge waste of time. I've wasted whole days and weekends just playing video games so instead I prefer to go out and kick a real ball.
Video games are a fun way to spend your free time. If you enjoy it, then it is in no way a waste of time.
LFD<3
It depends on the person. I've seen my brother succumb to the depths of video game addiction. Still is, and to me I see it as a waste of time, since it basically embodies his life. However, if playing at a more reasonable level, like say whenever you have free time, I say it's a good way to have fun.
I personally love the more interactive, social video games, like Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Dance Dance Revolution.
They can be ok, if they don't start interfering with your life.I know someone who failed out of school entirely because he just couldn't take a break from playing Halo long enough to do his homework or sleep. He played xbox Live so technically it was with friends but they weren't as obsessed. He would literally only take breaks to eat.
Some people take it too far, and then it is a monstrous waste of time, but I think it can be an outlet for entertainment when used in moderation. I enjoy playing games that aren't generally played online but require a group of people, like a lot of the Mario games.. of which Mario Party is my ultimate favorite. I also like guitar hero because it's just not as fun when you play alone!
Waste of time.
Well, it depends. I play video games on my console because I'm bored, but even I get bored with them.
Some people get addicted to video games to the point where it's their lives.
i dont think playing video games is a waste of time as long as you dont have other important things to do... people need free time and fun haha but if you do it everyday for hours and hours... then i think its horrible for the person...
@abcxunt@xanga - me too : )
They absolutely are NOT a waste of time.
DDR is my favorite way of exercizing the leg muscles.
Yes, they are a waste of time. Grow up and read a book!
I typically only like purchasing "multi"-player games so there's a social element to it.
if it's a solo game, it's gotta be something that supposedly improves your brain power, vocabulary or reflexes. call me a pragmatist.
I HATE "RPG" crap. sorry if that's your cup 'o tea.
eh, games like world of warcraft and things like that are a social game too. And, they've destroyed some people's lives too. So, that whole 'social interaction' crap dosen't fly. But, tbh, some people play vidoe games like some people watch tv or surf the net or roleplay or chat, or blog, (see what I'm getting at? :) ) As a way to pass the time, they aren't horrible. Hell, my significant other and I play video games together as a way of spending time. And it can be alot of fun, and alot of laughs. It's really up to your point of view. There's the two extremes: Stay the hell away, or succumb to them so badly, or the middle ground of using them for what they were ment to be. Entertainment. :)
I personally think that it can be a waste of time if you let it get the better of you and as a result, you don't want to go outdoors at all, hang out with friends and family at all, find and spend time with that special someone or one-time someone(lol) in your life, or more importantly if you are not doing your jobs and tasks whether in school or working on time and properly. Also, it depends on the games you play. As long as you feel you are escaping into a new world full of wonder, excitement, terror, adventurious scenarios and gaining knowledge about somethings you may not have been aware of, then playing videogames can be a fullfilling experience(maybe even educational) too. For me, growing up, playing videogames was rare, so luckily, I had a few friends who had a lot of video games and videogame consoles to choose to play from. I remember when I first got my ps1(yes I'm that old cuz that was sooo long ago), that took a lot out of my parents' wallets and well, getting the games for it would be limited. Overall I had a limited amount of games acquired. But luckily, I had chosen to pick games I had a gut feeling knew they wouldn't dissappoint me. I didn't want it just because it was so new and cool and everyone did it, I wanted it for escapism and a way to deal with well, living in a bad place to grow up where going outside to play with friends can cost you your well being. I am actually glad my parents couldn't afford that many games for me to have back then, and whenever I had to chose the few I got, I chose ones that I knew I would never regret. Playing videogames, to me, as long as its a game you can tell you like and not something that others do it as a fad, is not a waste of time at all. It also helped me with my creativity and reinforced my goal. But I never let it make me a videogame addict to the point where i'd become irresponsible. In the end, is up to oneself(and even parents) to make sure such a thing doesn't happen. I don't play videogames at all anymore and have been away from the game scene for quite a long time since the first few years that PS2 first came out, I never got any new consoles, I never asked for much else, I was getting older, worrying about more important things, discovering new things and rediscovering old things as well, so it makes my memories of playing videogames when I was younger so much more enjoyable and easier to remember.
i have nothing against video games or people who play them but personally i have never played video games except for wii (if that even is a video game) i love wii.
as long as you know how to control your time and usage its ok. just dont go overboard with it, spend too much time on it, mix real life with video game life or play it everyday cause than its just weird and time wasting. i have friends who play video games after work which is good, relieves the stress. some people even get paid to play video games :)
People who call video games a waste of time are self-centered prats who can't comprehend the concept people having varying interests. Anything that brings you happiness isn't a waste of anything, otherwise I could point to any given thing that someone else enjoys that isn't beneficial to their survival and call it a waste of time too.
In other words, I see no need to defend them if other people don't need to defend all the superficially-social crap and boring filler they like that is for some reason more acceptable (ex. organized sports, parties, television, shopping, the list goes on.)
99% of what we do in life is a waste of time. If you think about it, what is our time really for anyway and who's to say it's being wasted? You can argue spending time with your loved ones is a waste of time too.
If anything, video games are there to use up our spare time.
And thanks for rubbing Left4Dead in my face.
I want to try it, but my computer is too obsolete.
Are video games a waste of time? any hobby, essentially, is a "waste of time". it's a form of escapism; i think everyone has a method. as long as video games do not stop you from functioning as a human being --- out in reality --- i see them as being no worse than any other passtime. everything in moderation. if you enjoy it, do it. but don't let it become your life, your identity, etc --- which most people are perfectly capable of doing. almost everyone has played / plays / will play a video game. out of that gigantic number, there have only been a few extreme cases; basically, i don't know what a lot of people are complaining about when they're talking about the many "evils" of video games. Do you play the games online or on a gaming console? i play both offline & online, sometimes with real friends, and other times with online "friends." it just depends on what i'm in the mood for.
left for dead ( !!! ) <3
i played smash competitively for two years and can safely say that yes, it's pretty much a waste of time. people need to invest that same effort and time into something slightly more productive, like a job.
but yeah i still play video games >_>
I don't consider gaming a waste of time. No more than any other hobby that entertains for instant gratification.
Some people find video games as a waste of time. But you know, it's a hobby. Do people think that drawing is a waste of time too? How about exercising? Stamp collecting?
I play alot of video games (mostly racing and user involved like DDR and Guitar Hero). I also play some shooters like Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil. I find it as a way to kind of build hand eye coordination and offer a sense of fantasy like books, except you are involved in the actions.
Right now I'm at a minimal videogame playing situation. I just play Street Fither II and III and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. On breaks from school I play World of Warcraft. Other than that, I don't really play much else. I don't have a next gen console anymore though, so I'm getting a PS3 asap and I'll probably start playing again.
Playing games isn't always a waste of time.
