Getting Nostalgic About Old School Gaming
Guest blog by RoidBear
Many of us remember the days when we used to play Duck Hunt on the Nintendo, Mortal Kombat on the Super Nintendo, Quake on the Dreamcast, Mario Kart 64 on the Nintendo 64, and if you want to go all the way back...when we used to play Tetris on the Atari.
What was your favorite old school console? What made it so great? If you have more than one favorite, which game console did you prefer the most?

I only have a 64 & Gamecube in my house. I LALALALOVE Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I must have beat it like 4 times. But I think my ALL time favorite game is Pokemon Crystal on the Gameboy Color. :P it can just last for hours. ;D
HAHA recently my SO and I just talked about it and started playing N64 and gameboy all over again.
oh, bring back the good ol memories..
I still play them now on my laptop, but it's just not the same.
Ahh, nostalgia.
Most definitely Tetris, Mario, Duck Hunt, and Kirby on the NES. Born and raised NES, and it will be my favorite forever. And the original GameBoy was boss.
MarioKart 64 was pretty badass as well. Confession: I still play it to this day. I never really moved past the N64. That was the peak of my gaming.
"Pitfall" - Atari 2600
"Oregon Trail" and "Lode Runner" - Apple IIe (does that count as a console?)
"R-Type" - Sega Genesis
"Excite Bike" - N64
(siiigh) ahh, memories...
Well if I have to choose on the sheer amount of time played on any one console, I would have to say the NES or Famicom as the rest of the world new it. But for enjoyability It is hands down the SuperNES, that was the system that got me into playing RPGs for real, I actually went back and replayed all my old RPGs on my NES once I realized what they were...I think I was about 12 or 13 when I figured out what an RPG was, been hooked line and sinker every since. =3
Favorite system has to be the NES. That's where it all started for me (although I did dabble on the Atari, but found that the NES had much more enjoyable games). Contra is my all time favorite, along with Bayou Billy, Kung Fu, Ikari Warriors, 1942, SMB 1-3, etc. etc.!
Genesis - Wonder Boy
SNES - SM RPG, SM World, Kirby Superstar
N64 - GoldenEye, StarFox, Mario Kart, SM64, OoT
Ah. Those where they days. For N64 I can remember playing "Crusin' USA", "Star Wars:Shadow of the Empire", "Mario Kart 64", "WWF Wrestlemania 2000", "Pokemon Stadium", "Mario Party", "Super Smash Bros." and "Mortal Kombat Triology".
Gameboy "Pokemon Red, Blue, & Yellow", "Tetris", and some other games I can't seem to remember >.<
I sold my gameboy color a few years ago and I really regret it. I loved the old pokemon games for it (and I could kick anyone's ass at Mario Tennis...gbc or n64). I still have the original Playstation though...my fav games for that were probably the 3 first Spyro the Dragon's.
@spidergrass@xanga - I had a Playstation, but I sold it. Now I regret it because I loved that Playstation!
Kirby Super Star on Super Nintendo was really good.
N64!!!! Now those were the days. Mario Kart was IT!
Also on the list...
- StarFox
- Diddy Kong Racing
- Super Smash Bros
- Mario Party
SO good. I need to find that N64 again.
wow i liked almost all of them. sega genesis, super nes, n64, ps, and xbox.
duck hunt.
Perfect Dark 64 was great.. A new and improved Goldeneye 64 with aliens and lots of blood? It was perfect for 9 or 10 year old me and my friends =)
Kirby Super Star and Chrono Trigger for SNES Hands Down.
Kirby because nothing in this universe or any other universe can resist the power of a pink fluff-ball that can take the abilities of his enemies that he ate while having a stroll in Vegetable Valley.
Chrono Trigger because it's a classic epic RPG game that brought every single RPG essence of a TRUE game with a story line, music, and gameplay.
Hellz yeah.
I've only had one game console in my life, Super Nintendo, and one game to go with it, Super Mario World. I do love that game.
but I do remember Sonic the Hedgehog and Mortal Kombat at my cousin's house, ahh, those were the days.
That's an easy question The Super Nintendo Hands down perfect control layout great games such as super mario kart, super mario allstars,Super Mario Rpg, Pilot wings, Donkey Kong Country Series, Zelda a link to the past and mario paint! Plus Many more..It was a great time for Nintendo and yet I've strayed paths to go with Microsoft over the years the lil snes that i got in the 90's works even with all the abuse i dished out on it as a kid^_^
Sega Genesis and the Sonic games--started my love for all things video games : )
my aunt had a sega genesis when i was a tot, so i played Mortal Kombat, Doom and a few other things...i recieved the psx when i was 7 or 8, been playing games ever since =)

N64 and Super Nintendo.
Old school Mario Kart kicks some serious ass.
Game Boy Colour... Pokemon Yellow
However, I'm going to have to say Mario Kart 64 ftw.
Mario Kart 64. There is no paralell.
I don't know about old school gaming, as I haven't played anything.
Unless you count my Game Boy Color, in which case I have Pokemon Red, Yellow, Silver, and Crystal. A Yu-Gi-Oh! game and 1989 Tetris.
As for more recent games, I LOVE Quake III Arena.
Super NES--- Super Metroid. <3
