ESPN last week held a competition called,
The Ultimate Couch Potato. Contestants had to sit in a chair for 29 hours, with 8-hour bathroom breaks and could not go to sleep.
The prizes included two round-trip tickets on
AirTran Airways to anywhere in the continental U.S., a 42-inch 1080p LCD HDTV
DreamSeat recliner, as well as ESPN Zone’s Ultimate Couch Potato trophy featuring a real live spud.
I’m never up for these things on my own but with a few friends, I could probably do it. Having someone to compete against always helps. Back in college we used to stay up for hours playing games or watching ESPN.
The hardest part for me, unlike the runner up, wouldn't be using the bathroom every 8 hours, it would be watching
ESPN replay the same sports material for 29 straight hours, without the urge to fall asleep.
In this years competition Stan Friedman won after the runner up got up to use the bathroom.
Would you be able to sit 29 hours watching sports without sleeping for some of the prizes listed above? If not sports, then what would you be able to watch for 29 hours?

I could not watched sport for 29 hours solid without sleep or anything else for that matter not even a Simpsons marathon.
Not even spending 29 hours solid on the PC would probably be very bad for the eyes without having breaks.
maybe, you never know :)
but i agree, i would be more likely to do it if my friends did. With those prizes, it would be very tempting...
Sorry, I like my sleep and freewill. =)
If the rules didn't require watching sports for 29 hours, I would do that.
It doesn't seem so tough. I've had sleepless nights.
i'd definitely do it for a potato trophy.
just give me an ounce of trees and i think i could sit for 72 hours.
I could definitely do this, but not with sports (I'd fall asleep). Give me some videogames and someone else to change out the discs when I beat a game, and I'll be fine xD
