  • Guys Should NOT Pluck Their Eyebrows

This is a guest blog submitted by Chrischoi

Let's face it - for some reason guy's have horrible eyebrows.  When God designed our bodies, he decided that eyebrows would be funky looking on guys.  I mean, check out that actor Peter Gallagher:

Guys Should NOT Pluck Their Eyebrows
i kid you not, first image search result picture. Epic lulz.

But check that guy out - his eyebrows are like the costco of eyebrows.

Any event - there's a period of time in your life when you'll look in the mirror and actually wonder about them.  If you stare at them too long, they even start to look funny no?  Try it - go to your mirror, look at your eyebrows.  It just looks out of place - like you're head is a mister potatoe head doll and some 3 year old put the arm piece in the eye socket.

Which brings me to this - I know guys who pluck their eyebrows.  Now, back in early 2000, there was a name for this - metrosexuals.  But lately that word started to fall off our daily vocabulary just like how movies go to die on TBS.

But is it me - or is it just weird when your friend admits that he plucks his eyebrows.  For some reason, you pause when you hear that.  I mean, i'm not altogether sure what to think - do I think more highly of you?  Or do I think you're less of a man.

I know women like groomed guys, but just imagining you sitting in your bathroom, 4 inches from the mirror plucking away - it reminds me of Mr. Miagi (rest in peace) teaching karate kid Daniel Larusso to trim the bonsai tree with little itty bitty scissors.  First you pluck the eyebrow, next it's gonna be wax the leg, then paint the nail.  There's something emasculating about it.  It's all a stone's throw away.

But like I said - a lot of women like groomed men.  And i've heard countless times when people say "men should have eyebrows, not unibrows"  But as we get older - you gotta understand.  It's all about the unity thing.  For example - when a guy grows a little facial hair, the first thing other guys ask is "do you connect?" - that means, the stache connects with the beard along side the mouth - for some reason, that's like a huge genetic accomplishment if you have that - you're the envy of all men.

Also, we all tried to get a 6 pack, and we instead unified all of them to form one huge 1 pack - that's the other unifying principle.  So it connecting our eyebrows is, in ways, in our nature to want to do.

Bottomline - I'm torn - plucking eyebrows for guys - what do you think of it?

not every one is born with perfect eyebrows as me :P

but i think u should pluck/wax/weedwack only if its truly necessary and still dont make it too obvious that you do itseeing guys with perfectly manicured eyebrows makes me go yuuuckkki think with all manscaping should be done so  dont look like a bear who woke up from hibernation but but not that your hand painted doll. a light dusting of hair is sexy

I've resolved this conflict by letting my girlfriend pluck my eyebrows.

  • I_Am_Twilight@xanga

I think some men need to pluck their eyebrows.  but just makingsure they have no unibrow going on.  That's about it.

  • albinisticcamel@xanga

I don't think guys should overly pluck their eyebrows, or shape them and whatnot, but if it's crazy and out of control (i.e. uni-brows) then that's okay.

  • Tokimon@xanga

some guys can pull it off, and i like it.  as long as it's not overdone

  • omgitsmackie@xanga

I don't think guys with a unibrow are attractive, AT ALL. So, I say go for the plucking. Mind you, I don't think they should go to the extremes women do with arches and whatnot. They just need to keep their bushy eyebrows under control. =]

  • machinoir@xanga

sorry, i just hate having a monobrow way tpp much

  • hipbonesarein@xanga

i'm sorry, but i love love love groomed men.  i think the gay men do it best, with the waxed chests and backs, perfectly plucked eyebrows, and if they have facial hair, very well taken care of.  i know most guys will never ever do that, but i always wish that they would.  i figure that if women have to spend all this time grooming and plucking and waxing, men should have to experience some of that pain.

Guys should not pluck their eyebrows! Most often time they end up looking prettier than their women & that's just weird!

  • dawnypoohb@xanga

They are starting younger too. I teach 6th graders - 12 year olds in the Hispanic Community in Philadelphia and the boys are coming in with plucked eyebrows. It's even moreso funny when they come and they days it is noticeable they just did it or the days when they need to do it, growing back in, hahaha. They do it - for the ladies. lol

  • somethingbluee@xanga

i think it's okay for guys to pluck their eyebrow... i don't mind it at all. well as long as they don't over do it.

  • raeofsunshinexo@xanga

Unless he has a uni brow, I think men should not pluck. However, if they do have a uni brow they should definitely turn that into two eyebrows.

  • Shavanna@xanga

As long as the brows can be identified as brows and not a catepillar or a jungle, it's perfectly fine in my opinion :D

  • Shavanna@xanga

@hipbonesarein@xanga - I agree with you :]] Well groomed men are attractive. Have you ever seen a man with like this beard where it just makes you want to gift him shaving cream? [no offense to anyone who has a beard O.O]

  • stealingtheory@xanga

When a dude cleans up his brows a bit--as to prevent a unibrow or something--it's fine.

When he's completely reshaping them, there's a problem.

  • Kaysera@xanga

Forget plucking. Be a man and wax ;)

  • SmokyMountainDreams@xanga

I can't even watch the OC because Peter's brows bother me too much!  He needs a brow wax!

  • MiladyMasked@xanga

You know who needs to pluck his eyebrows?  Robert Pattinson.  Fucking caterpillars, man.

  • TheAngryQueerFeminist@xanga
    Do what you want.

If I complained about guys plucking their eyebrows, it'd be like some guy complaining about how I don't shave my legs on a regular basis (all girls high school. Gimme a break).
  • slamjoe@xanga

ONLY exception: if they want to get rid of their unibrow. i don't have one but for the rest of the world's sake, if you're spotting a uni,. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! visual pollution, bro. that's the only place, right between the eyes.

otherwise, guys who shape or thread or pluck... GROW A PAIR FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

    thankyou and good night.

  • Tarmel@xanga

first of all, loved the paragraph on unifying - made me laugh X-D

i actually tried plucking once on advice from my sisters, but, as you described it, the whole process just seemed emasculating.  yet i still dont really like the whole unibrow deal, so i went with a more manly alternative, which is quick and efficient: i buzz the middle-brow every once in a while.  it's easy, takes 2 seconds, and gets rid of the unibrow temporarily if i'm going somewhere, and don't want to look like a caveman.  it's not unmanly to shave your beard  - so would you say differently about the unibrow?

excellent post - keep up the good writing.

Must have missed that conversation. I always thought connecting was more common.

As for plucking- why not, in the case of avoiding the unibrow.

Though in my case, even if I have the full beard grown out, I still have to shave around it to look decently groomed and I have no problem just shaving the stray hairs that pop up between the brows occasionally. I guess I could pluck them if i wanted, but a razor does the trick and those hairs don't grow as fast as the rest of the facial hair.

i do my boyfriend's eyebrows :) He has a pretty nice shape to begin with, I just make em look neat.

I never liked guys with overly bushy eyebrows. It was always a turnoff for me. However, I don't like guys who are overDONE [ex: tan to the point of orange, earrings, no hair on legs, arms).

I think it's okay if you're a guy and have neat looking brows. It just makes you look cuter. :D

You can look like a yeti if you want to but personally I like to appear my best for all occasions.
