  • Why The Yankees Are Ruining America's Favorite Pastime

This is a guest blog submitted by Kash

For all you baseball fans out there, starting today you will hate the New York Yankees.  News from ESPN, says the Yankees have locked up first baseman Mark Teixeira.  As much as I love the thought of Teixeira playing first base for the Yankees, I can’t help but feel the Yankees are ruining the joy and excitement of baseball.

When a team decides to “buy” almost every major free agent out there (they signed C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett earlier this winter), it becomes sad and pathetic to even bother watching the game.  You expect them to win so the excitement is no longer there.

Baseball has always been a great game to root for the underdog.  Take for example last year, rooting for the Tampa Bay Rays was so much fun.  Yes they were Yankee rivals in the division but they were more fun to watch than the Yankees. (I’m a huge Yankee fan by the way.)

I just feel this deal with make people hate the Yankees even more and those who didn’t hate them before will start now.  They’ve already been branded as the “Evil Empire” by the Red Sox.  Doesn’t that say enough about their spending ways?

In some strange way, a part of me wants the Yankees to go back to their old ways of developing good talent. Well I guess if you have money to spend then why not right?

Do you think the Yankees are destroying baseball?  Should there be a salary cap to prevent teams from “buying” big time free agents every summer?
